Communications and Networks

 

The Communications and Networks (C&N) Department is NIWC Pacific’s team of professionals bringing world-class Communication, Networking, and Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) capabilities across all warfighting domains.

We are a team of approximately 800 personnel with locations in San Diego, Los Angeles, Colorado Springs, and the National Capital Region.

Our team of professionals bring expertise in networking technologies, tactical data center design, mobile and advanced computing, satellite and tactical communications, unmanned systems, atmospheric effects, photonics, microelectronics, and robust Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT). We develop operationally relevant systems that meet the toughness and unique requirements of the warfighter. We focus on ensuring that the Navy, naval, joint, and coalition warfighters have access to the information that they need to complete their mission and come home safely.

Our C&N team supports a wide range of customer needs from space to seabed. Our responsibilities include performing basic and applied research, advanced technology development, and transitioning the latest technology to warfighter technology gaps. Our team collaborates and partners with research and advanced-development communities across industry, academia and government. Specific Science and Technology areas include Networks Research, Advanced Photonics, Communications, Antenna and Waveform Research, Advanced Integrated Circuit Technology, Modeling and Simulation, Atmospheric Propagation, and Advanced PNT.

The department educates, mentors, and develops a world-class technical and professional workforce to meet our customer’s current and emerging needs and requirements. Our priorities focus on our taking care of our people, active engagement with our customers, innovating for the future, ensuring employment of modern digital engineering practices, and excelling on ultimate execution of our projects for our customers.
